BURKINA FASO AUTHORITIES STOPS ANOTHER ASSA§§INATION PLOT AGAINST MILITARY LEADER, IBRAHIM TRAORE

Burkina Faso’s government has announced it disrupted a plan to a+sa§§inate the country’s military leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, just hours before it was allegedly set to unfold.
Security Minister Mahamadou Sana revealed in a televised statement that intelligence services intercepted the sophisticated operation, which he claims was orchestrated by Lieutenant Colonel Paul Henri Damiba, the military officer whom Traoré overthrew in September 2022.
Sana further alleged that funding for the plot came from neighbouring Ivory Coast, though neither Damiba nor Ivorian authorities have responded to these accusations.
According to Sana, investigators obtained a leaked video showing conspirators discussing their plans.
The footage allegedly detailed two potential methods for k+lling Traoré, either through a close-range att@ck or by detonating explosives at his residence scheduled for just after 11 p.m. on Saturday, January 3rd. The plotters then reportedly intended to target additional military and civilian officials.
The minister claimed that Damiba had rallied both military personnel and civilian backers, obtained foreign financing, including approximately $125,000 fromthe Ivory Coast, and planned to disable the country’s drone operations to prevent outside intervention.
“We are conducting ongoing investigations and have made several arrests. These individuals will face justice soon,” Sana stated, though he did not specify the number of detainees. He assured the public that the situation remains under control and cautioned citizens against being drawn into “d@ngerous schemes.”
Since taking power, the 37-year-old Traoré has survived at least two previous coup attempts while confronting escalating jihadist violence that has displaced millions.
Despite his authoritarian governing style and the country’s security challenges, he retains considerable domestic support and has garnered admiration across Africa for his pan-African stance and criticism of Western involvement in the region.
