BURKINA FASO TO PAY ALL UNIVERSITY STUDENTS 100,000 CFA MONTHLY UNTIL EMPLOYMENT, SAYS PRESIDENT IBRAHIM TRAORE
New initiative aims to support students financially throughout their studies and into the workforce.
In a groundbreaking move announced in April 2025, the government of Burkina Faso declared that all university students across the country will receive a monthly payment of 100,000 CFA francs (approximately $167 USD) to support their education and livelihood until they secure employment.
President Ibrahim Traore unveiled the ambitious initiative as part of the government’s broader strategy to alleviate financial pressures on students and stimulate growth in key sectors such as education, agriculture, and industrialization.
The program seeks to ensure that students can focus on their academic pursuits without the distraction of financial hardship, while also encouraging them to contribute meaningfully to the country’s socio-economic development upon graduation.
This landmark policy positions Burkina Faso as a leader in student welfare in the region and is expected to have far-reaching impacts on educational attainment and employment rates.
