Burkina Faso has achieved a historic milestone by launching ITAOUA, its first 100% locally-made electric car brand.
This achievement marks a major step in the country’s journey toward industrial and technological advancement.
It reflects Burkina Faso’s strong ambition to become a leading technology center in West Africa.
The Burkinabe company ITAOUA has designed and produced this electric vehicle entirely with local resources and expertise.
The car offers impressive features, such as the ability to travel 330 kilometers (205 miles) on just a 30-minute charge, making it suitable for both city and rural areas.
The company’s philosophy is that innovation is not limited to major world powers but can also flourish from places like the Sahel region in Africa.
The manufacturing plant is located in Ouaga 2000, a key district in Burkina Faso, and is the vision of a Burkinabe entrepreneur who aims to transform the country into a technological hub.
Local engineers are responsible for the design and manufacturing processes, highlighting Burkina Faso’s growing skills in the automotive industry.
Mordor Intelligence reports that Africa’s electric vehicle market was valued at $11.94 billion in 2021 and is projected to grow to $21.39 billion by 2027, with an annual growth rate of 10.2%.
