CAPTAIN PLANET, DR POUNDS CALL FOR SUPPORT FOR OKOMFO KWADEE

Ghanaian musician Captain Planet, of the renowned group 4X4, has issued an emotional appeal to the music industry, urging immediate action to support hiplife legend Okomfo Kwadee. The plea comes after a distressing video of the once-vibrant artist surfaced online, showing him in a troubled state while singing his old hits.

On Wednesday, February 5, 2024, Captain Planet took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice his concerns, writing: “Ghana Music Industry, Make We People Do Something For Okomfo Kwadee Before e Go Be Too Late.” His call for help was echoed by radio personality Maximous Mensah, popularly known as Dr Pounds, who shared the viral video and lamented, “What can we do paaa to help our brother?? Asem oooo so sad! Charley legend! GOD HELP OUR BROTHER.”

The video has sparked widespread concern among fans and industry stakeholders, many of whom are heartbroken to see the decline of the artist who once dominated Ghana’s hiplife scene with hits like Boyz Boyz, Ofie Nipa, Meko M’anim, Yeko Mmaa Pe, Abrantie, and Ataa Adwoa. Known for his unique style and energetic performances, Okomfo Kwadee, born Jerry Anaba, was a household name in the early 2000s.

Despite his past success, Kwadee has faced significant challenges in recent years, particularly with his mental health. At the end of last year, another video of him struggling with his condition went viral, prompting calls for urgent intervention. Reports suggest that efforts by prominent figures like music producer Abraham Ohene Djan and former hiplife artist turned pastor Evangelist Lord Kenya to provide him with medical help were thwarted by opposition from his family.

As the music community rallies for support, the plight of Okomfo Kwadee has reignited conversations about mental health and the need for collective action to assist artists in crisis. Fans and industry players alike are hopeful that the renewed attention will lead to meaningful steps to help the hiplife icon recover and reclaim his legacy.
