CHIEF OF STAFF JULIUS DEBRAH REVOKES ALL PUBLIC SERVICE APPOINTMENTS MADE AFTER DECEMBER 7, 2024

The Office of the President has issued a directive revoking all appointments and recruitments made within Ghana’s Public Service after December 7, 2024, citing non-compliance with established good governance practices.

In an official letter signed by Chief of Staff Hon. Julius Debrah, dated February 10, 2025, all Heads of Government Institutions have been instructed to annul any appointments or recruitments made after the stated date. Additionally, institutions are required to submit a comprehensive report on the actions taken to the Presidency by February 17, 2025.

The statement emphasizes that the move aligns with the government’s commitment to maintaining transparency and accountability as part of its governance principles, especially in the transition period.

The directive follows growing concerns about last-minute appointments made in the public sector, which have been widely debated in political and civil circles. The government’s action signals a strong stance against potential political entrenchment or recruitment-related improprieties in the final days of the previous administration.

This decision is expected to impact numerous public sector workers who received appointments in recent weeks, with uncertainty looming over the future of these recruitments.

Public reaction to the directive has been mixed, with some stakeholders welcoming the move as a necessary step to uphold merit-based recruitment, while others see it as an unfair dismissal of legitimate hires.

As the February 17 deadline approaches, all eyes will be on how government institutions comply with the directive and the potential fallout from affected personnel.
