CHINA ANNOUNCES ZERO-TARIFF ON IMPORTS FOR 53 AFRICAN COUNTRIES STARTING MAY 2026

China has confirmed that zero-tariff access for 53 African countries will take effect in May 2026, allowing eligible goods to enter the Chinese market without import taxes.
The policy is expected to deepen trade relations and improve market access for African exporters competing in one of the world’s largest economies.
Analysts say the move could boost sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and raw materials, while strengthening economic ties between China and the continent.
China will also continue to push for the negotiation and signing of joint economic partnership pacts, and further expand market access for African exports to China through upgraded mechanisms such as its “green channel”, according to the state television report.
