CINA SOUL FACES BACKLASH FOR IMAGE REBRANDING ON MAXTV

Ghanaian singer Cina Soul has come under fire for her recent style transformation, with critics accusing her of abandoning her “Decency” brand for a more revealing fashion sense influenced by international stars Ayra Starr and Tyla.

The controversy stems from a promotional video for her new single, Larger Than Life featuring Stonebwoy, where the singer was seen in an outfit that sparked mixed reactions. The song, released two weeks ago, has amassed over 82,000 YouTube views, but public discourse has shifted from the music to her wardrobe choice.

During a discussion on MaxTV, hosts expressed disappointment in Cina Soul’s shift in image. A female host noted that the singer did not begin her career with such revealing outfits, while veteran Kumawood actor Big Akwes criticized her new direction, suggesting that an elder should “talk sense into her” before it’s too late.

“If she’s exposing her body for attention, she might get it, but it won’t last long,” Akwes argued. He cautioned against following trends set by artists who rely on shock value, stating, “Not everyone who exposes their body trends. If you copy them, it could backfire.”

To emphasize his point, Akwes referenced highlife legend Daddy Lumba, stating that even if someone replicated his music, they wouldn’t achieve the same legendary status.

While some fans defended Cina Soul’s right to evolve her style, others expressed disappointment, arguing that her initial “Decency” brand was a refreshing contrast to the industry’s hyper-sexualized trends. Social media debates continue, with some accusing critics of policing women’s choices, while others believe the backlash stems from her abrupt shift in persona.

Cina Soul has yet to publicly respond to the criticism. However, the conversation highlights the ongoing tension between artistic reinvention and audience expectations in Ghana’s entertainment scene.
