Former Ghanaian coach Kwesi Appiah has reportedly submitted a coaching application for the open Black Stars vacancy.
Otto Addo announced his resignation as coach following the Black Stars’ defeat at the World Cup, and the Ghana Football Association is currently looking for a replacement.
Appiah has withdrew his application to be the Black Stars’ head coach, however he has stated that he is still interested in the position.
He admitted to having applied for the position at Sompa Sports. “When I heard the FA state that no Ghanaians had applied, I thought that as a Ghanaian, I had to apply to show that we can prove ourselves, therefore I added my name to the foreign list,” the applicant said.
The GFA reports receiving over sixty applications, the majority of which came from foreign coaches.
According to FA spokesperson Henry Asante Twum, “around 60 coaches have applied for the Black Stars coaching position, and those coaches are from Europe and South America.”
As preparations for the AFCON 2023 qualifiers get underway, the federation anticipates announcing a new coach before the second month of the year.
