COURT ORDERS CID, IMMIGRATION, SOCIAL WELFARE TO STOP WOMAN FROM TRAVELLING WITH MINOR

The juvenile court in Accra has ordered the Commander of the CID Division of the Ghana Police Service, headquarters in Accra, to prevent Ms Karen Baaba Sam from travelling out of the country with her four-and-a-half-year-old daughter.

The directive comes after Ms Sam declined to adhere to a previous court order mandating her to leave her daughter in the custody of Mr Kwadwo Adjei (the daughter’s father) while awaiting the final resolution of a lawsuit filed against her by Mr Adjei.

The court led by Ms. Bernice Mensimah Ackon additionally instructed the Director General of the Ghana Immigration Service to stop Ms. Sam from leaving the country with the girl.

The details in the case statement indicate that on April 3, 2017, Mr. Adjei began a relationship with Ms. Sam, and they essentially cohabitated like a married couple until the arrival of their daughter.

However, at some point in 2021/2022, Mr. Adjei, the applicant, reported noticing a significant shift in Ms. Sam’s demeanour, and also faced accusations of romantic involvement.

The statement indicated that Mr. Adjei questioned Ms. Karen regarding the claims, but she refuted them.

In February 2024, while Mr. Adjei was abroad for a medical examination, Ms. Sam called to express her desire to take her daughter and niece to a beach resort.

The statement indicated that Mr. Adjei sent GH¢50,000.00 to her for their benefit and usage.

Nonetheless, Ms. Sam did not utilize the funds for the intended reason, but instead for inappropriate activities.

When Mr. Adjei came back to Ghana, he chose to “spend time with the kids at Big Blue Resort” as well.

During their stay at the Resort, their daughter (name withheld) pointed out the location where Ms. Sam participated in inappropriate behavior.

The applicant stated that his daughter verified witnessing her mother and another man smoking continuously while they were at the Resort.

The statement indicated that when Mr. Adjei challenged Ms. Sam regarding the matter, she gathered her things and departed the house, leaving the children in his care.
