CREATIVE ARTS REPRESENTATION IN PARLIAMENT WILL ELEVATE THE INDUSTRY – Rex Omar

Renowned Highlife musician Rex Omar has expressed optimism about the election of six parliamentary candidates from the creative arts sector, emphasizing the potential impact on the industry.

Speaking in an interview with Property FM, Rex Omar highlighted how creatives entering politics helps challenge stereotypes and broadens the scope of political participation.

“There was a time when being a creative and engaging in politics was frowned upon by those who didn’t understand the role of creatives in governance,” he remarked. “Politics is not reserved for any particular group or profession, yet creatives who ventured into politics often faced criticism.”

Rex Omar lauded the success of the six creatives who secured parliamentary seats in the recent elections, noting that their presence will bring advocacy and visibility to the industry.

“I’m very happy that, in this particular election, six creatives have won parliamentary seats,” he said. “This will ensure that they can advocate for policies that support the creative arts, which research shows can create numerous jobs for young people.”

The veteran musician believes this development will shift perceptions and demonstrate the sector’s potential to contribute significantly to national development.
