‘CREATIVES SHOULD NOT BE DIVIDED BY POLITICS’ – Veteran Producer Fred Kyei Mensah
The renowned sound engineer, Fredyma, urges industry players to prioritize collaboration and talent over partisan affiliations for the sector's growth.

Veteran Ghanaian sound engineer and music producer, Fred Kyei Mensah, popularly known as Fredyma, has called for unity within the creative arts sector, urging creatives to set aside political differences for the collective advancement of the industry.
Speaking during an interview on Starr Showbiz with Feeling Daddy on Starr 103.5 FM on Saturday, November 15, Fredyma emphasized that collaboration across political lines is essential. He echoed a point made earlier by the Tourism Minister, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, who championed the need for agencies to avoid working in silos.
“…And Honourable Abla Dzifa Gomashie made a very congenial point, that in the creative industry, [we don’t fight], we gather ourselves,” Fredyma stated. “Because in a band, you can have the keyboardist being an NDC, or the guitarist being an NPP, who play together. At the end of the day, they will go away.”
The celebrated producer stressed that the primary focus should remain on talent and contribution, not political leanings. He pledged his continued support to the creative community for the duration of the current government’s term, regardless of individual artists’ political affiliations.
“So, I’ve said, until the four years [of the current government] comes to an end, every time [I’m] by the creative industry… I’m going to give it to them. If Rex Omar comes to me, that ‘Freddie do this’, I will… I will defend them when they are very, very good,” he added.
Fredyma also contrasted the current environment with past frustrations, noting that present government support under leaders like President John Dramani Mahama has allowed creative ideas to be implemented, highlighting the potential for progress when the industry is nurtured above partisan divisions.
