DADDY LUMBA SANG PROFANE SONGS YET WON ALL THE AWARDS – Mzbel Tackles Charterhouse

Ghanaian singer Mzbel has openly criticized Charterhouse, the organizers of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), accusing them of inconsistency in their criteria for awarding songs.

In a video shared on GhanaCelebrities.com, Mzbel pointed out that renowned musician Charles Kwadwo Fosu, also known as Daddy Lumba, frequently produced songs with explicit content, yet he managed to collect numerous awards during his career.

Reflecting on her own career, Mzbel highlighted that her hit songs ’16 Years’ and ‘Awoso Me’ faced significant criticism due to their language, which ultimately prevented them from winning awards at the time.

Mzbel further explained that there was a concerted effort to block ’16 Years’ from securing any awards, an effort that was ultimately successful.

‘Awoso Me’ was formally excluded from the awards on the grounds of having explicit lyrics.

She labeled this inconsistency as hypocritical, noting that despite Daddy Lumba’s explicit lyrics, he was still able to garner a large number of awards.

The issue of songs with explicit content being disqualified from awards has resurfaced following the exclusion of King Paluta’s widely popular song ‘Makoma’ from the nominations for the 2025 TGMA Awards, despite its success over the past year.
