DADDY LUMBA’S DIRECT FAMILY REJECTS 13 DECEMBER FUNERAL

In an official statement, the 14-member core family committee describes the advertised date as "unsuitable and unrealistic," pointing to ongoing investigations and the need for international mourners to plan travel.

The direct family of the late highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has formally announced that his funeral will not take place on the widely publicised date of 13 December 2025.

In a statement dated 24 November and issued by the family’s press secretary, a 14-member core family committee declared the date “unsuitable, unrealistic and never officially approved.” The family expressed surprise at billboards and notices across Accra and Kumasi promoting the December date, clarifying it was only mentioned in passing during initial discussions at the Manhyia Palace and was never formally agreed upon.

The committee outlined four principal reasons for the postponement:

  1. Children’s Academic Commitments: Several of Daddy Lumba’s children based in Germany and other countries are preparing for crucial examinations. The family stated that expecting them to “combine mourning with life-defining assessments would be emotionally damaging and wholly unreasonable.”
  2. Ongoing Autopsy and Investigations: The circumstances surrounding the musician’s death are still under investigation. The statement confirmed that “detailed investigations and parallel autopsy processes in both Ghana and Germany are ongoing,” making a December funeral impractical.
  3. Logistics for Family Abroad: Many of Lumba’s closest relatives hold essential jobs abroad and require sufficient time to obtain emergency leave, which is not feasible on such short notice.
  4. International Mourners: Given Daddy Lumba’s decades-long career and connections in Europe, the family emphasised that a funeral of such “international significance” must allow ample time for global colleagues, friends, and admirers to arrange travel to Ghana.

The statement was endorsed by key family members, including the singer’s elder sister, Ernestina Brempomaa Fosu, and his direct uncle, Wofa Robert Yaw Opoku Gyamfi. The family has already communicated its position to the Dadesoabahene, confirming that a new, feasible date will be announced in due course.
