DADDY LUMBA’S SPOUSE, ODO BRONI, FILES COUNTERCLAIM IN COURT
The late musician's partner seeks judicial declaration that Daddy Lumba had divorced his legal wife Akosua Serwaa and requests formal recognition as his lawful widow.
The late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba’s legacy, his partner Priscilla Ofori Atta, popularly known as Odo Broni, has filed a counterclaim seeking judicial recognition as his lawful wife and a declaration that he had divorced his legal spouse before his passing.
Lawyer William Kusi, representing Akosua Serwaa, revealed during an interview on Top Radio’s Final Point show that Odo Broni’s legal team has formally asked the Kumasi High Court to declare that Daddy Lumba had divorced Akosua Serwaa and to recognize Odo Broni as his legitimate widow.
“She has now opened her defence in court and filed a counterclaim asking the court to declare that Daddy Lumba divorced Akosua Serwaa. She also wants the court to recognise her as Daddy Lumba’s legal wife,” Kusi stated.
The lawyer also clarified confusion surrounding viewing rights for the musician’s body, explaining that the court has ruled only the person who deposited the body at the mortuary holds legal viewing rights, unless others receive explicit authorization.
This legal countermove comes after the Kumasi High Court dismissed an injunction application by Akosua Serwaa on October 28, granting the family head authority to proceed with funeral arrangements. The court has directed both parties to submit all required legal documents by October 31, with a Case Management Conference scheduled for November 14 to advance the case.
