Joyce Bawa Mogtari has expressed support for the government’s choice to replace George Akuffo Dampare with a new Inspector General of Police.
On March 13, 2025, a government statement announced that Christian Tetteh Yohuno is the new IGP.
This statement highlighted that Yohuno’s role would include bringing modernization to the country’s policing methods.
Before this change, some civil society organizations (CSOs) attempted to block the president’s decision by seeking a court order to prevent changes in the leadership of various security agencies.
Joyce Bawa, in response to the CSOs’ actions, mentioned that the president needed someone who would be loyal, particularly because it involved critical security concerns.
“They sat aloof and watched askance as our country was mismanaged, and looked on as former President Akufo Addo made reckless financial decisions and just as many frivolous appointments. Now they run to the Supreme Court to stop President Mahama from sacking IGP Dampare.
Indeed it is trite learning that Leaders have to appoint persons loyal to them, especially when it comes to the safety and security of the country.”
