DELIVER OR STEP ASIDE – President Mahama Warns Underperforming Ministers

President John Dramani Mahama has issued a firm warning to his ministerial appointees, stating in unequivocal terms that non-performance will not be tolerated under his administration. He urged ministers to rise to the occasion, deliver results, and meet the expectations of the Ghanaian people — or step aside.

The President delivered his remarks at the opening of a four-day Executive Leadership Programme for Ministerial Appointees, held in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The retreat, which began today in Accra, brought together cabinet members, private sector stakeholders, and development partners in an effort to foster effective, responsive leadership.

“You were not appointed to occupy space. You were appointed to solve problems,” President Mahama declared. “The Ghanaian people expect us to deliver. And we must — not with excuses, but with results.”

He emphasised that the programme was more than an orientation exercise. Instead, it marked the beginning of a collective mindset shift aimed at abandoning old, ineffective governance models in favour of bold, accountable leadership.

“The business-as-usual approach will not work. Indeed, it is dead and we must bury it once and for all,” the President said, drawing loud applause from the gathering.

Mr. Mahama stressed the need for ministers to recognise the deep-rooted frustrations of citizens, particularly the youth, farmers, and small business owners who have long awaited meaningful reforms.

“Our young people are tired of waiting interminably. Our farmers, our workers, our entrepreneurs… want to live in dignity and prosperity,” he stated.

As he closed his address, the President reiterated his zero-tolerance stance for underperformance.

“Please remember, when any of us fall short, I will not hesitate to act,” he warned.
