The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, has stated that the sanctions imposed on President John Mahama are more severe than those imposed on Russia by the European Union.
Since Mahama has frozen his account, Wontumi claimed, how can he expect him to live or even eat?
On Friday, May 23, 2025, the Ghana Police Service and the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) broke into Chairman Wontumi’s home in order to make an arrest.
Approximately 20 heavily armed officers arrived in five vehicles for the operation, which reportedly began at 9:00 a.m.
“If your accounts get frozen how do you expect to survive and even eat? The sanctions President Mahama have imposed on me are more harsher than those the European Union imposed on Russia. I don’t have access to any account”.
“I will go to the police headquarters because they have brought me a letter. I haven’t received any letter from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB),” he added.
