DON JAZZY SUGGESTED WE PART WAYS – D’banj

In a recent podcast, the "Koko Master" revealed that his former partner was "100 per cent responsible" for the iconic record label's dissolution, but he holds no regrets or grudges.

Nigerian music star D’banj has shed new light on the breakup of the legendary Mo’Hits Records, stating that it was his partner, ace producer Don Jazzy, who initiated their split.

The duo, who founded one of Africa’s most influential music empires, parted ways in 2012, a move that sent shockwaves through the industry. Speaking on the Mic On podcast with Seun Okinbaloye, D’banj placed the decision squarely on his former partner.

“The idea to go our separate ways didn’t come from me. It came from Don Jazzy 100 per cent,” D’banj revealed. He emphasized that there is no lingering animosity, partly because Don Jazzy generously gave him full ownership of his solo music catalogue.

“Jazzy gave me 100 per cent of my catalogue and maybe 10 other songs I have not released… that’s why we have no issue,” he added.

Despite the split being Don Jazzy’s initiative, D’banj expressed that he doesn’t regret the parting of ways, believing it was “predestined.” He also noted that their final collaboration, “Oliver Twist,” went on to become a massive global hit, validating his belief in their potential for international success.

However, the singer admitted to a sense of nostalgia, confessing that he misses the creative synergy of collaborating with Don Jazzy. The revelation provides a fresh perspective on one of Nigerian pop music’s most defining and debated breakups.
