Prominent media figure Afia Pokua, also known as Vim Lady, has urged Second Lady Samira Bawumia to maintain consistency in her Muslim attire.
Vim Lady noticed that during the 2012 and 2016 election campaigns, Samira wore a hijab to highlight her Muslim heritage.
After the election, Samira was often spotted not wearing the hijab, causing doubts about her true religious beliefs.
Vim Lady warned that this inconsistency may harm Vice President Bawumia’s chances in the 2024 elections.
She pointed out that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is using this issue as a key component of their campaign strategy.
This arises as some NDC members allege that Samira’s inconsistent usage of Muslim clothing may indicate an effort to minimize her Islamic identity or conform to Christian norms.
“If you choose to project a liberal Islamic image, that’s one thing, but it’s crucial to be consistent with your attire, especially now that your husband is the flagbearer. The NDC is focusing on this point, and it’s not just propaganda; it reflects a real concern,” she said in a Twi video shared by One Ghana TV on YouTube.
