The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo has formally retracted his statement and apologized to Lydia Alhassan, who is the current Member of Parliament and the parliamentary candidate for the NPP in the area.
Dumelo apologized after receiving criticism from the Widows Association in Ayawaso West Wuogon for his unsupported accusations against Lydia Alhassan.
In a recent media appearance, Dumelo insinuated that Lydia Alhassan was to blame for the death of her deceased spouse, who served as the constituency’s MP before his demise.
In a Facebook post, John Dumelo said, “I apologize and unreservedly retract my previous comments. I extend my sincere and unconditional apologies to Hon. Lydia Alhassan for my remarks during the Media General public engagement (Community Manifesto) concerning the death of her husband.”
He said that his utterance were not in line with his beliefs or principles, clarifying that he made the remarks in reaction to personal attacks from the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources’ supporters.
“My comments were in response to personal attacks by supporters of the honourable minister, including false allegations regarding my mother’s death. However, I recognize that my reaction was inappropriate.”
He restated his firm dedication to the growth and advancement of the constituency, promising to tirelessly strive for positive changes and enhancements for the community.
