EC DISQUALIFIES BERNARD MONARH FROM CONTESTING 2024 ELECTIONS

Flagbearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC) Bernard Monarh has been disqualified from contesting the 2024 elections.

The Electoral Commission (EC) on Friday, September 20 cleared thirteen candidates and declared them eligible to contest the December polls.

Out of the 24 presidential candidates who filed nominations last week, Bernard Monarh is amongst 11 candidates who have been disqualified by the EC. Most of the candidates disqualified are Independent candidates.

“Following the successful conduct of the Filing of Nominations from the 9th of September to the 13th of September, 2024, the Commission instituted a thorough examination of the Nomination Forms submitted by the Candidates to ensure conformity with requirements as set out in law,” the press release announced.

“The Electoral Commission wishes to inform the General Public that the following persons have successfully gone through the Nomination process and qualify to contest as Candidates in the 2024 Presidential Election,” it concluded.

In an interview with TV3 on News Central, Bernard Monarh revealed that his legal team has sent a letter to the EC asking for an explanation for his disqualification.

Bernard Monarh went on to characterize the EC’s statement revealing the qualified candidates as “bogus.”

He said the Electoral Commission reached out to him for corrections on his forms, which he made, but did not hear back until the statement was issued on Friday, September 20.

The ex-General Secretary of the People’s National Convention was chosen as the party’s flagbearer on September 8 for the upcoming December 7 general elections.

After winning the election, he submitted his nomination at the Electoral Commission’s office last week and voiced his belief that the PNC would have a significant influence in the upcoming elections.
