National Security operatives have arrested twelve (12) Chinese nationals and one Ghanaian in connection with the disappearance of ECG cable containers from the Tema Port.
The suspects, linked to two aluminum smelting companies in Shai Hills, were apprehended in a Thursday dawn raid following intelligence leads. During the operation, security forces discovered stolen cables suspected to be from the missing ECG shipmentat a Chinese-owned aluminum smelter near the Shai Hills Game Reserve.
Authorities believe the cables were being processed into aluminum bars for export. One Chinese suspect remains at large, with security agencies actively pursuing him.
The arrested individuals are expected to be arraigned before court by Saturday, March 29, 2025.
This case highlights growing concerns over theft and illegal reprocessing of critical state infrastructure materials. The ECG has yet to comment on the financial impact of the missing cables.
