The EC has disposed of all faulty presidential and parliamentary ballot papers made for the Volta and Ahafo Regions.
The demolition occurred on Thursday, November 21, with oversight from political parties, impartial monitors, the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), and the Police Service.
The decision comes after the EC stated that wrong serial numbers were found on the ballot papers for these regions, prompting the need for them to be reprinted, as announced by Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chair of Operations.
Previously, on Sunday, November 16, the EC managed to incinerate the leftover, surplus, and sheets utilized for printing the faulty ballot papers.
Fred Tetteh, the Deputy Director of Research, Monitoring and Evaluation at the EC, stressed to the media that the destruction was crucial in order to maintain the electoral process’s integrity.
“We came here for a purpose, an exercise that we made you aware of. And at this point, you can testify to the fact that the ballot papers that the Commission discarded based on defects have been destroyed,” he said.
He comforted the citizens by stating that only correctly printed ballot papers would be used for the December elections, with some already sent out to the various regions.
“The Electoral Commission is going to use the ballot papers that are going to be printed, which have been printed, some have been sent to the regions – that’s what we are going to use for the December elections,” Mr Tetteh added.
Mr Tettey made it clear that the aim of the exercise was not to show preference or discrimination towards any political party, mentioning that members from different political parties were present to supervise the process.
