ELECTION 2024: IGP Dampare Calls For Peaceful Polls And Preparedness For Outcomes

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has called on political parties to collaborate with the Ghana Police Service in ensuring a peaceful and successful electoral process ahead of the highly anticipated 2024 general elections.

During a meeting with representatives of political parties in Accra on Thursday, November 21, Dr. Dampare reassured stakeholders that the Police Service is fully prepared to maintain law and order before, during, and after the elections. However, he emphasized that achieving a peaceful election requires collective effort from all parties involved.

Addressing the party representatives, the IGP urged them to plan for both outcomes of the election—victory and defeat—stating that only one party can emerge as the winner.

“As you plan for your potential victory, you must also prepare to accept and handle your defeat, knowing that only one party can emerge victorious,” Dr. Dampare said.

He highlighted the importance of collaboration, urging political parties to avoid actions that could disrupt the peace and stability of the nation during the election period.

Dr. Dampare concluded with a call to unity and responsibility, saying, “If everyone plays their part, Ghana will succeed. We are ready for the elections, but we need your cooperation to ensure our plan works for the good of the country.”

The IGP’s remarks come at a crucial time as Ghana gears up for a decisive election year. His message underscores the importance of mutual respect, tolerance, and adherence to the rule of law to safeguard the country’s democratic credentials.
