ELECTORAL COMMISSION TO ANNOUNCE 2024 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION RESULTS AT 4:30 PM TODAY

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has confirmed that the official results of the 2024 presidential election will be announced today, Monday, December 9, 2024, at 4:30 PM. The declaration is set to take place at the EC’s Corporate Head Office in Accra, according to a communiqué titled “Let the Citizens Know.”

With results from 13 out of 16 regions already submitted, the EC stated that the collation of the remaining three regions is nearing completion. The much-anticipated announcement will be broadcast live, with the EC urging citizens to follow the proceedings from the comfort of their homes.

Addressing a press conference earlier in the day, Deputy EC Chair Samuel Tettey called on supporters of political parties to avoid converging at the National Collation Centre, emphasizing that such gatherings are unlawful.

“There is no need for party supporters to converge on the collation centre. It is both illegal and unwarranted,” he remarked. Mr. Tettey also reminded the public that access to the centre is restricted to individuals with official accreditation.

“Supporters should stay calm and wait for the final results. The announcement will be televised live at 4:30 PM for everyone to witness,” he added.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has already declared victory for its presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, based on its own collated results. Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has reportedly called Mr. Mahama to congratulate him on his victory, according to their internal figures.

The EC has faced criticism for the perceived delay in declaring the results, a situation that has heightened political tensions nationwide. However, the Commission has defended its process, stating it remains within the stipulated 72-hour timeline.

As the final moments of the collation process unfold, the EC has called for patience and cooperation from all citizens, assuring them of transparency in its operations.
