EMPRESS GIFTY ‘DRAGGED’ ONLINE OVER ‘NO GH¢50K, NO-SHOW’ COMMENT
Ghanaian gospel musician Empress Gifty has come under heavy criticism on social media after making a bold statement regarding her event performance fees.
In a widely circulated video posted on July 16, 2025, Empress Gifty declared, “As I am standing here, the least I would charge your people is GH¢50,000, and I would take it. If you don’t pay me such an amount, I won’t perform.” Her statement, which was made during an interview, has since sparked widespread backlash and debate across various social media platforms.
Many users described the comment as unnecessary and questioned whether gospel music had become overly commercialized. “Ah, was that statement she made necessary?” one X user wrote, while another, @Ang3linah, added, “God, please protect Esther Smith for me, ok. She’s the only one left doing this ministry thing right in this so-called gospel industry.”
Others challenged the gospel singer’s perceived impact relative to her fee, with one socialite noting, “50,000 for what impact, hmmm, then Ben Oko Jr will take 150,000.”
Despite the backlash, some fans have defended Empress Gifty’s right to set her own performance rates, citing industry standards and the value of professionalism in gospel music.
As of now, Empress Gifty has not publicly responded to the criticism.
