EMPRESS GIFTY SUES NANA AGRADAA FOR GH¢20 MILLION OVER DEFAMATORY SOCIAL MEDIA CLAIMS

Gospel singer alleges character assassination, reputational harm, and loss of endorsement deals due to vulgar insults.

Award-winning gospel musician and brand ambassador Gifty Adorye, popularly known as Empress Gifty, has filed a defamation lawsuit against controversial evangelist Patricia Asiedu, also known as Nana Agradaa. The suit, lodged at an Accra High Court, seeks GH¢20 million in damages for what the plaintiff describes as a vicious online smear campaign.

According to a writ of summons sighted by NKONKONSA.com, the legal action stems from a May 13, 2025, livestream during which Nana Agradaa, founder of Heaven’s Way Church, allegedly made defamatory and sexually explicit comments about Empress Gifty.

The statements made in the Twi language and widely circulated on Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube accused the gospel singer of:

  • Engaging in prostitution and adultery

  • Participating in acts of bestiality

  • Altering her physical appearance for vanity

  • Performing sexual acts with pastors before ministering in churches

Empress Gifty, through her lawyers, argues that these claims are false, malicious, and intended to tarnish her image, particularly in light of her role as a public figure and a mother. The plaintiff says the remarks have had a ripple effect, affecting her children, brand partnerships, and international bookings—including an upcoming music engagement scheduled for August 2025.

“The credit and reputation of the Plaintiff have seriously been damaged and brought into public ridicule, scandal, odium, and contempt,” the writ states.

The lawsuit further alleges that Nana Agradaa’s videos were picked up by multiple blogs and news portals, exponentially expanding the reach of the damaging content.

Reliefs sought include:

  • GH¢20,000,000 in general damages for defamation

  • A perpetual injunction preventing further defamatory commentary

  • A mandatory order compelling the Defendant to delete all videos and audio recordings from her platforms

  • Legal costs and any other relief the court may deem fit

Empress Gifty also wants an order for the Defendant to pull down all the videos, audios in which she spoke the words defamatory of the Plaintiff from all her social media handles.

As of press time, Nana Agradaa had not publicly commented on the suit.
