EOCO TO INTRODUCE LIFESTYLE AUDITS TARGETING CELEBRITIES AND INDIVIDUALS WITH SUSPECTED UNEXPLAINED WEALTH

The Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), Ghana’s EOCO has revealed plans to start lifestyle audits aimed at celebrities and anyone thought to have mysterious money.

This innovative program demonstrates a dedication to guaranteeing that people’s wealth corresponds with their reported revenue sources, promoting a responsible and accountable financial culture.

The decision to start lifestyle audits was made in response to Ghanaian musician and social media influencer Mona Montrage, better known online as Hajia4reall, entering a guilty plea in a $2 million romance fraud.

In an interview with JOY NEWS, Edward Cudjoe, Head of Administration and Investigations at EOCO, revealed that procedures were in place to start lifestyle assessments for people who have unexplained money.

He underlined that EOCO wants to depart from the existing legislation, which demands that an individual be the focus of inquiries prior to being questioned over the source of their riches.

“We are leading the charge by ourselves, making certain proposals for the amendment of the law to align with international standards. This ensures that any gaps in your financial profile are substantiated by your earnings. Any disparities must be clarified to law enforcement, and the burden of proof rests on the individual to explain the origin of those resources,” he said.

By tackling possible financial inconsistencies, EOCO’s decision to start lifestyle audits aimed at celebrities and people with suspected mysterious wealth is an important move onto encouraging financial accountability and disclosure.

The initiative hopes to encourage high-profile people and the general public to adopt responsible financial practices.
