EVEN LATE FORMER PRESIDENT RAWLINGS DIDN’T TRUST GHANA’S HEALTHCARE —Vim Lady Reacts To Prof. Naana Jane’s Medical Treatment Abroad

Ghanaian media figure Afia Pokua, also called Vim Lady, has reminded Ghanaians that it is common for politicians to seek medical treatment abroad.

This is not a new occurrence.

She mentioned that former President Jerry John Rawlings once traveled to London for medical care under a different name.

“Rawlings himself, the man many hail as a nationalist, went to London for medical care. He used the name ‘Paul Gyamfi’ just to access treatment. Why? Because even back then, the system wasn’t reliable,” she disclosed on Gyaso Gyaso programme monitored by MyNewsGh.

According to Vim Lady, this habit of going abroad for healthcare shows a bigger problem—Ghana’s weak healthcare system.

It also points out the hypocrisy of leaders who talk about improving the system but take action for themselves by looking for better healthcare in other countries. For instance, she mentioned Rawlings’ daughter, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings.

“If our healthcare system and medical education were that strong, why didn’t Rawlings ensure his daughter studied medicine here?” she questioned,

Vim Lady noted that Zanetor was sent to Northern Ireland to study medicine, instead of attending the University of Ghana Medical School.

For Vim Lady, the main issue isn’t just that politicians go abroad for medical treatment.

The bigger concern is that they aren’t committed to improving Ghana’s healthcare system. She wants people to stop focusing on criticizing politicians and instead push for real changes in healthcare.

It’s important that everyone works together to demand a better system for everybody at home.

“Instead of making noise and pointing fingers, let’s demand better healthcare policies. If we don’t fix our hospitals, today it’s Naana Jane, tomorrow it could be someone else. Let’s stop the hypocrisy!” she stressed.
