EVENTS OF 2020 ELECTIONS LIKELY TO REPEAT ITSELF IN DECEMBER – Security Analyst warns

Adam Bonaa, a Security Analyst, warned that the 2020 election incidents may happen again this year without proper intervention from authorities.

During an interview on Neat FM’s ‘Ghana Montie’ on August 20, 2024, Adam Bonaa cautioned that any procrastination in providing the interim voters register to the different political parties might lead to a crisis for the nation and the imminent elections.

“I don’t think it’s good enough. This thing [provisional voters register] should have been given to the political parties long ago because fortunately we are in a digitisation age and so you press a button and everyone’s name appears.

“If you want to transfer the file using some protocols, you can transfer, but to wait till less than 24 hours for the exercise [voter exhibition] to begin before releasing the list, what if the political parties say the list is incomplete, how are you going to do that analysis? All these things do not augur well for the upcoming elections,” he said.

Bonaa added that the factors causing violence are increasing and even a small trigger could make the situation worse.

“What happened previously in the 2020 elections is coming back again and if we are not careful things might not be the way it’s always is. We always say there is tension in every election but this time around if we are not careful, things will not go well for us and we need to tread cautiously because the undercurrent is not good. You’ve heard the political parties and their leaders’ throwing tantrums, he stressed.

He advised political parties to be cautious and decorous in their utterances.

“These are worrying times for all of us but we just have to continue to urge the leaders to watch their comments because we don’t want any chaos.”
