Ghanaian media star MzGee recently disclosed that she had been turned down for a job with Despite Media in 2021 due to her proficiency in English.
MzGee recalled visiting Fadda Dickson, a well-known figure in the media field, to give her a plaque while she was working for JoyNews in an interview with Abeiku Santana. Abeiku Santana, who was in attendance at the time, presented her to Fadda and praised her during her visit.
Abeiku asked whether Fadda would consider hiring MzGee in an effort to find her a job. Unfortunately, Fadda gave her a discouraging response and expressed little interest in her because she was unable to speak Akan.
MzGee recounted her memories of the episode with Abeiku Santana during the interview, reminding him of their first encounter with Fadda Dickson. She described Fadda’s response and voiced her dismay, saying that he had disregarded her because of her English-speaking background and advised her to stick to that field.
MzGee did, however, accept Abeiku Santana’s confidence in her and his precise forecast of her success in the future. He had called her the “Wendy Williams of Ghana” before they had ever met, seeing her potential without viewing her as a simple copy. She remembered this with affection.
MzGee had impressive fortitude in the face of following criticism and outrage when she took on the hosting responsibilities for UTV’s United Showbiz. She persisted in following her passion in spite of being rejected, ultimately establishing herself as a capable and useful media figure.
