Singer Cina Soul, a pivotal figure in Ghana’s female musical scene, spoke with TV3 New Day about her experience.
Cina asserted that she had to pose some challenging questions to herself in order to find the particular voice that Ghanaians have come to adore.
Since there are so many musicians in the world, I think the hardest step is frequently figuring out your sound or what makes you unique. Even in Ghana, what will set you apart from the hundreds of others?
“Finding your individuality in music does not mean that one is putting themselves in a cage and limiting their gift,” Cina said in response to Adowa Noella’s question.
She added that while she records in the studio, she has found other characters connected to her voice throughout the years. “It appears that you discover a new type or aspect of yourself at every turn. For my very first EP, Ojorley, I showed a completely different side of myself. This is a part of myself that I didn’t know existed, I thought.
Cina was frank and honest about her choice to become a musician. She was still a student and only dabbling in her art, thus one of the challenges mentioned was that she wasn’t financially equipped.
