FIRE ERUPTS BEHIND VVIP STATION AT CIRCLE, DESTROYS OVER 50 SHOPS
Disaster officials assess damage as cause remains under investigation

A massive fire has destroyed more than 50 mobile phone shops behind the VVIP Station at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.
The incident occurred on the morning of Tuesday, January 20, 2026, sending thick smoke billowing across the busy commercial hub.
Eyewitnesses say the fire started around 10 a.m. and quickly swept through the densely packed shops, many of which were filled with phones, accessories, and electronics. Although the Ghana National Fire Service responded swiftly and managed to contain the flames, significant property damage had already been done.
While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed, several traders at the scene suspect an electrical fault may be to blame.
Officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the Klottey Korle Municipal Assembly have since arrived on site to assess the damage and coordinate emergency support for affected traders.
No injuries or fatalities have been officially reported, but authorities have urged residents and motorists to avoid the area while investigations and clean-up efforts continue.
