FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTRY URGES BETTER TREATMENT FOR VISA APPLICANTS

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that it has dispatched a Note Verbale to all Embassies and High Commissions, urging them to ensure appropriate and humane conditions at their diplomatic missions and visa centres.

This move follows numerous public complaints regarding the treatment of Ghanaian citizens when visiting foreign missions in Ghana for visa applications.

In a statement issued on February 25, 2025, the Ministry outlined several concerns raised by applicants, including lack of adequate waiting areas, absence of emergency services, long waiting times for appointments, and difficulties accessing visa application websites.

“It is the Ministry’s expectation that Foreign Missions will respond positively and appropriately to this request,” the statement emphasised.

The Ministry further stated that it would continue to monitor compliance with the directives outlined in the Note Verbale, while also acknowledging that Embassies and High Commissions retain the right to determine visa issuance.

The Ministry reassured the public of its commitment to addressing the concerns of Ghanaian visa applicants and ensuring fair treatment in visa application processes.
