FORMER NDC VICE CHAIRMAN DEFECTS TO NPP, ENDORSES BAWUMIA’S LEADERSHIP

Peter Mawuli Ekpe, a once-loyal member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and former Vice Chairman for the Nhyiaeso constituency, has announced his defection to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a video, Ekpe clarified his choice to switch political allegiances before the crucial 2024 elections, pointing to the effective policies of the NPP as the key factor.

For Ekpe, the NPP’s Free SHS policy completely transformed the game.

“I remember challenging them. I said if they could truly implement Free SHS, I would switch my allegiance,” he revealed.

True to his word, he now finds himself endorsing the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

“Dr. Bawumia’s vision for Ghana is what we need to move forward. His leadership is effective, and the results speak for themselves,” he added.

Ekpe has a strong bond with the NDC. Being raised in the Ashanti Region as an Ewe, he was brought up in a family that highly respected the NDC.

He devoted years of service to the party due to his loyalty, which included leading propaganda campaigns to support their policies.

Reflecting on those years, he shared, “I defended the NDC even in the toughest times, like the dumsor crisis.

“My loyalty cost me dearly, including my film production business. But I stood by them because I believed in the cause.”

As time passed, Ekpe’s outlook changed, according to him.

“I couldn’t ignore the impact of the Free SHS program. It’s not just about promises; it’s about delivery,” he said.

He noted the progress the NPP has achieved in governing, especially in their commitment to improving education and implementing economic reforms.
