Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, has passed away in London, according to an official announcement by his former aide, Bashir Ahmad.
The statement, shared via Ahmad’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, read:
“The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London. May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus. Amin.”
Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s civilian president from 2015 to 2023, and previously as military head of state from 1983 to 1985, was widely recognized for his anti-corruption drive and efforts to stabilize Nigeria’s economy.
Details regarding his burial arrangements will be communicated by the family in line with Islamic traditions.
