FORMER NSS DEPUTY DIRECTOR GIFTY OWARE’S TRIAL TO BEGIN ON JANUARY 22 AFTER FAILED ATTEMPT TO DELAY PROCEEDINGS

The trial of Gifty Oware-Aboagye, former Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), is set to commence on Monday, January 22, 2026, at the High Court, following a failed attempt by her legal team to delay proceedings.

According to court sources, the presiding judge dismissed a motion filed by the defence seeking to “slow down” the trial on procedural grounds. The judge ruled that the application lacked merit and directed that the case proceed as scheduled.

Gifty Oware is facing charges related to her tenure at the NSS, part of a broader probe into alleged misconduct and mismanagement within the institution. Details of the charges have not been officially disclosed, but sources close to the matter suggest they involve financial impropriety and administrative irregularities.

The case is part of ongoing efforts by state prosecutors to ensure accountability in public service, especially in agencies tasked with managing national youth programmes.

Oware’s legal team had argued that the case was being rushed and requested more time to prepare. However, the court rejected the request, affirming its readiness to begin hearing the matter on the stipulated date.

The upcoming proceedings are expected to attract significant public attention, given Oware’s prominence in political and youth leadership circles.
