Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has urged Ghanaians to preserve peace and support democratic principles in the upcoming general elections. Kufuor emphasized the significance of honouring the election outcomes during a conversation with reporters on November 17, 2024, in order to protect the nation’s democracy.
“It is essential for everyone to vote calmly and exercise their rights peacefully on election day. Electoral violence is unacceptable, and I hope for a smooth and peaceful election process,” he stated.
Kufuor reminded Ghanaians that ultimate power lies with the people, urging them to prioritize unity and peace regardless of the election outcome. “We must recognize that true power belongs to the populace. It is crucial to accept the results, no matter our personal preferences. I encourage all parties involved to prioritize peace throughout the election,” he added.
This message arrives at a crucial time as Ghana prepares for its national elections on December 7, 2024. The competition includes Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia from the NPP and John Dramani Mahama from the NDC. Kufuor’s plea highlights the importance of a peaceful and democratic process.
He also stressed the importance of upholding democratic values and the legal system.
“We must ensure the electoral process remains free, fair, and transparent. These are the pillars of our nation’s stability and progress” he added.
