Ghanaian media personality, Serwaa Amihere has characterized the Free Senior High School policy introduced by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as his “most significant legacy” so far.
On August 29, 2024, while using her X handle, the host of GHONE TV’s “Voters’ Connect,” discussed the effects of the Free SHS policy. Amihere mentioned that her conversations with Ghanaians show a broad endorsement of the policy.
“I anchor GHONE TV’s ‘Voters’ Connect’ and my interactions with ordinary Ghanaians tell me ‘Free SHS’ will be President Akufo-Addo’s biggest legacy,” she posted.
Amihere pointed out that a lot of voters, including market women, hawkers, and commercial drivers, are likely to back the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 elections because of the Free SHS policy.
She admitted that despite facing obstacles, the policy has brought significant benefits to many Ghanaian families.
“From market women to hawkers to commercial drivers, many voting NPP in 2024 cite ‘Free SHS’.
“The implementation has had challenges but we can never discount the impact Free SHS has had on many Ghanaian families,” she added.
The responses to her posts from internet users varied. While some supported her position and praised the government for the policy, others highlighted the numerous obstacles the policy has faced.
