FUEL PRICES TO INCH UP IN LATE AUGUST; DIESEL TO SEE SLIGHT DROP – COMAC

The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) projects marginal adjustments in fuel prices for the second pricing window of August 2025.

In its latest forecast, COMAC indicated that from August 16, petrol prices at the pumps could rise between 0.39% and 2.71%, while LPG may see an increase of 0.15% to 2.34%. Conversely, diesel prices are expected to edge down by 0.21% to 0.72%.

The price shifts are attributed to recent movements in global petroleum prices, a modest depreciation of the cedi against the US dollar, and differing supply-demand dynamics across fuel products. On the world market, diesel recorded a sharp 5.22% drop, while petrol and LPG rose by 1.89% and 2.87%, respectively. Brent crude fell slightly by 0.23% to $70.26 per barrel due to higher output from OPEC+ and non-OPEC producers, weaker futures market sentiment, and reduced speculative trading.

Domestically, the cedi slipped by 0.87% from GH¢10.68 to GH¢10.77 per dollar between July 27 and August 12, adding mild upward pressure to import costs. COMAC maintains that the anticipated changes are consistent with prevailing international market trends, with only moderate pump price increases expected for petrol and LPG.
