GAF RECRUITMENT: ONE ARRESTED AT EL WAK FOR FORGING DOCUMENTS

The arrest comes as the military exercise resumes under a new, decentralized system designed to prevent a repeat of the fatal stampede that occurred earlier this month.

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed the arrest of an individual for presenting forged documents during the resumed recruitment screening at the El-Wak Stadium in Accra.

The Director of Protocol for the GAF, Colonel Evelyn Asamoah, disclosed this to Citi News on Thursday, November 20, the same day the recruitment process recommenced. She stated that the suspect has been apprehended and will be dealt with according to established procedures.

This development comes as the GAF implements a significantly restructured process to ensure safety and order. The recruitment was suspended on November 12 following a tragic stampede at the same venue that resulted in six fatalities.

The new system, which has seen close to a thousand candidates processed so far, decentralizes the exercise across eight sub-centres in the Greater Accra Region to manage crowd density. Applicants are now processed in batches and receive specific instructions via SMS to avoid congestion.

During the resumed exercise, the Chairman of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, James Agalga, led a monitoring visit to the El-Wak centre. He expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise under the new arrangements, signaling a positive step towards restoring order and integrity to the recruitment process.
