GHANA ARMED FORCES RECRUITMENT RESUMES NOVEMBER 20 WITH 8 NEW SCREENING CENTRES IN GREATER ACCRA

In response to the tragic stampede that halted the process, the military has overhauled its system, introducing multiple sub-centres and a strict batch-and-message protocol to manage crowds and ensure safety.

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced that its suspended 2025/2026 recruitment exercise will resume on Thursday, November 20, 2025, with a completely restructured and decentralized screening process for the Greater Accra Region.

This follows the tragic stampede at the El-Wak Stadium last week, which led to the immediate suspension of the activities. To prevent a recurrence, the GAF is implementing a new safety-focused model, spreading the screening across eight sub-centres located within five military installations in the region.

The designated locations are:

  • El-Wak Stadium (2 Centres)
  • Nicholson Park, Burma Camp (2 Centres)
  • Air Force Base, Burma Camp
  • Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Teshie (2 Centres)
  • Eastern Naval Command, Tema

Under the new protocol, applicants will be processed in controlled batches of 600. All qualified applicants are expected to receive an SMS specifying their exact reporting date, batch number, and assigned centre. The GAF has strongly cautioned that families and friends should not accompany applicants to the centres, and non-applicants will be denied entry.

In its statement, the GAF also confirmed that a Board of Inquiry is investigating the stampede. As part of the response, the entire Greater Accra Recruitment team has been replaced to ensure a transparent probe. The military extended its “deepest sympathies” to the bereaved families and assured that all injured recruits continue to receive free medical care at the 37 Military Hospital.
