Controversial broadcaster Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah has made explosive claims that convicted illegal mining kingpin Aisha Huang will soon be released from prison and deported to China under the current administration’s new policy on foreign nationals engaged in galamsey.
Speaking on his For The Records program Monday night, Afrifa-Mensah stated: “Reliable sources indicate Aisha Huang’s imminent release. This explains why Interior Minister Mubarak Muntaka recently announced the government’s preference for deporting rather than prosecuting foreign illegal miners.”
The broadcaster drew parallels to similar controversial statements made by former Senior Minister Yaw Osafo-Maafo in 2020, which sparked public outrage at the time.
The claims follow Interior Minister Muntaka’s April 4 announcement that Foreign nationals caught in illegal mining will face deportation, not prosecution, same applies to foreigners involved in fraudulent activities, focus is on removing offenders rather than lengthy court processes
“We’re implementing a streamlined approach to protect our environment while respecting international protocols,” Muntaka stated during a meeting with Ashanti Regional police.
