The Ghana Education Service (GES) after the Ministry of Education directed for the sacked 8 Chiana SHS girls to be recalled back to school has said the students will be given an alternative sanction other than the earlier dismissal.
In a statement shared with AcademicWeek, the Service said its decision to accept the students back to school comes after President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo intervened in the disciplinary action against the insulting girls.
“The Ghana Education Service has referred the matter to the school’s disciplinary committee to explore alternative sanctions other than the dismissal,” the management of the Service said in the press release dated January 13, 2023.
The 8 final-year Chiana Senior High School (SHS) students, the Ghana Education Service has said are to report to the Headmistress of the school for further directions.
The management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) dismissed eight students of Chiana Senior High School in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region for insulting President Akufo-Addo in a video last year.
The dismissal of the students comes after the Ghana Education Service and authorities of the Chiana SHS completed an investigation that unravel the circumstance that lead to such unfortunate utterances and gestures against Nana Addo.
In a letter shared with AcademicWeek.com and dated November 29, 2022, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Dr Eric Nkansah directed that the insulting students be sacked from the school.
A letter to the parents of one of the students explained that her conduct was “considered very undesirable and contrary to the acceptable standards of conduct generally required of any student in our Educational system in Ghana.”
The Ghana Education Service following students of Chiana SHS sacking admonished prospective students to use the dismissal as “a major turning point in her life to bring the desired change in her behaviour and attitude towards life.”
