The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante-Twum has revealed that head coach Otto Addo and his supporting staff have not been paid for many months.
Asante-Twum, speaking on Game Plan on Joy FM, clarified that it is the Ministry of Youth and Sports, not the GFA, who is responsible for paying the Black Stars’ technical team.
He also stressed the significance of communicating with the Ministry, particularly when dealing with possible contract terminations and severance payouts.
“I am not sure of the exact duration, but there are salaries in arrears. We owe him [Otto Addo] a few months, and it’s not just him but also the backroom staff,” Asante-Twum said.
He explained that, “It is the Ministry’s responsibility to handle that. Since it falls under their remit, I cannot speak for the Ministry, but what I know is that some months are in arrears.”
The disclosure arises amidst increasing doubt about Otto Addo’s role as head coach, following Ghana’s inability to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
“There’s every need to consult the Ministry because, ultimately, if the coach is sacked and there’s an issue of paying him off, that responsibility lies with the Ministry, not the GFA,” he explained.
