GH₵120K SAVED MONTHLY AFTER SCRAPPING JUBILEE HOUSE TV SUBSCRIPTIONS – Felix Ofosu Kwakye

The Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu disclosed that President John Dramani Mahama’s choice to end all satellite TV subscriptions at the Jubilee House results in a savings of about GH₵120,000 for the presidency each month.

The directive, which is part of the government’s renewed initiatives to reduce excessive expenditure, guarantees that no office in the presidency subscribes to DStv or any other paid satellite TV service.

In an interview with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Mr. Ofosu Kwakye stated that the Mahama administration identified the cost while assessing inherited operational expenses at the government’s headquarters.

“When we came to the Jubilee House, there were multiple subscriptions in addition to the local channels that we watched. When we took stock and did the calculations, we realised we were spending about GH₵120,000 monthly just on satellite subscriptions. President Mahama has cancelled all of that,” he disclosed.

He challenged the reasoning for such an expenditure, particularly when modest sums could address urgent community issues.

“There are communities where a broken water pump costing GH₵1,000 is all that stands between them and access to clean water. Yet, here we were spending GH₵120,000 just to watch TV,” he added.
