The Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL) has taken decisive action by shutting down McDan Aviation Private Jet Terminal, also known as Terminal 1, due to an outstanding debt of over $3 million owed by the company.
A visit to the facility revealed that two police officers have been stationed at the entrance to prevent unauthorized access to the terminal, signaling the seriousness of the move by the GACL.
Speaking to GHOne/Starr News, the Chairman of the Ghana Airport Company Divisional Union of the Public Services Workers Union of TUC, Alhaji Abdul Issaka Bamba, emphasized that the debt has been long overdue for payment. He stated that the Union fully supports the management’s decision, adding a warning to other partners who owe the GACL that they may face similar consequences if they fail to settle their debts.
“The payment of this outstanding debt is long overdue, and we support the management’s decision to take this action,” Mr. Bamba said.
This shutdown marks a significant escalation in the standoff between GACL and McDan Aviation, underscoring the importance of financial accountability within the aviation industry. The closure of the private jet terminal, which has catered to high-profile individuals and businesses, could disrupt operations for its clientele while sparking broader conversations about the financial obligations of private companies operating in public spaces.
As the situation unfolds, industry stakeholders will be watching closely to see if McDan Aviation will meet its obligations or if this development will set a precedent for how the GACL handles similar cases in the future.
