GHANA COULD CO-HOST FIFA WORLD CUP WITH NIGERIA AND IVORY COAST – Sports Minister

Kofi Adams has urged the government to consider a joint bid with its West African neighbors, citing FIFA's growing acceptance of multi-nation hosting and the region's existing infrastructure.

The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has proposed an ambitious plan for Ghana to co-host a future FIFA World Cup alongside Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast).

The Minister’s vision is inspired by FIFA’s recent trend of awarding hosting rights to consortiums of nations, as seen with the 2026 tournament in the USA, Mexico, and Canada, and the 2030 edition in Morocco, Spain, and Portugal.

Adams believes that West Africa possesses the potential and collective strength to put forward a compelling bid. “They [FIFA] are beginning to adopt a number of nations doing it so maybe who knows, the next one would be Ghana, Nigeria, and then Côte d’Ivoire,” the Minister stated.

He highlighted the significant investments already made by the neighboring countries, noting that Côte d’Ivoire recently hosted the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), while Ghana successfully organized the 2023 African Games in 2024.

“I believe that we, together with Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire… can also ask for that right,” Adams said, calling on the government to begin considering the steps to make this a possibility.

The proposal suggests a long-term strategic goal for sports development and international cooperation in the region, though it would require monumental planning, investment, and coordination between the three nations to meet FIFA’s stringent hosting requirements.
