GHANA RECORDS FOUR NEW MPOX CASES, TOTAL NOW STANDS AT NINE – Ghana Health Service Confirms
The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed four new cases of Mpox, formerly known as Monkeypox, bringing the total number of confirmed cases nationwide to nine (9).
According to 3news sources, the latest cases were detected in the Western Region (2) and the Greater Accra Region (2). Health authorities clarified that these new cases are not epidemiologically linked, suggesting separate transmission incidents.
Previously, three Mpox cases were recorded within the Accra Metropolitan area, while two others were confirmed in the Western Region.
Despite the rising figures, GHS officials have assured the public that there is no cause for alarm, as active response mechanisms are being deployed. Contact tracing is currently ongoing, with those identified through surveillance being closely monitored.
In response to the uptick in cases, Regional Health Directorates have heightened surveillance and re-activated emergency response protocols, including isolation procedures and community outreach on transmission prevention.
Mpox is a viral disease known for symptoms such as:
- Rash
- Fever
- Headache
- Muscle and back pain
- Low energy
- Swollen lymph nodes
Transmission occurs primarily through close contact with infected individuals, animals, or contaminated materials.
The GHS continues to encourage the public to practice good hygiene, avoid direct contact with individuals displaying symptoms, and report suspected cases to the nearest health facility.
