GHANA TO LAUNCH VAT “REWARD SCHEME” NEXT YEAR TO BOOST TAX COMPLIANCE – Ato Forson

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson announces that tax-compliant citizens will be entered into national draws for prizes using collected VAT receipts, as part of reforms to modernize revenue collection.

The Ministry of Finance will launch a national Value Added Tax (VAT) “Reward Scheme” in 2026, designed to incentivize compliance by entering taxpayers into prize draws based on collected receipts.

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson announced the initiative after meeting with officials at the Large Taxpayer Office in Accra, where he reaffirmed efforts to strengthen revenue mobilization and address systemic leakages.

Under the program, citizens who demand and retain VAT receipts will be eligible for entry into national draws with attractive rewards. The scheme aims to encourage receipt-taking, reduce VAT chain leakages, and improve overall tax compliance.

The reward system is part of broader tax-administration reforms set for rollout next year, including a redesigned VAT system and the deployment of fiscal electronic devices to enhance transparency and data accuracy.

Dr. Forson stated that the combined measures are intended to “build a modern, fair and efficient revenue system” in support of the government’s “agenda of Resetting for Growth, Jobs, and Economic Transformation.”
